BRISTOL, R.I.Endicott College remains undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 25-14, 26-24, 25-18 win over Roger Williams University Wednesday evening.

 

A balanced offensive attack kept the pressure on the Hawks, as the Gulls got nine kills apiece from Steph Wiese (Higganum, Conn.) and Brittany Phillips (Sudbury, Mass.) in addition to seven from Beth Dow (Pocasset, Mass.). Casey Ward handed out 25 assists for the Gulls, while Brittany Nolan (Monroe, Conn.) had a team-high 14 digs.

 

The first game saw Endicott jump out to an early 7-1 lead, before the Hawks responded to tie the game at 8-8. A seven-point serving run by Gulls sophomore Ally Murphy (Gilford, N.H.) put the Hawks on their heels and led Endicott to the first-set victory.

 

In the second game, the intensity stepped up on both sides, with neither team leading by more than three points over the course of the set. The Hawks' Kirsten Bosworth (Centerville, Mass.) served up three consecutive aces to put RWU ahead late, 22-19. RWU served for set-point with the 24-22 lead, but failed to capitalize on either of its set-point opportunities, as the Gulls finished the set with four straight points for the win.

 

The close battle continued into the third set with Endicott calling a timeout holding a slim 16-14 lead midway through. The Gulls responded with a 9-4 run to finish the set and take the victory.

 

Bosworth finished with a double-double for Roger Williams with 18 assists and 11 digs. Erica DoVale (Hope, R.I.) led the Hawks with eight kills, while Jill Hurd (Sunapee, N.H.) dug 14 balls.

 

Endicott (12-4, 5-0 TCCC) will be at the Tufts Invitational this weekend, while Roger Williams (10-7, 2-3 TCCC) hosts a tri-match with Baruch College and St. Joseph's College (Conn.) on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
