Women's Soccer flies past AmCats, 7-0

PAXTON, Mass. -  Freshman Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) and sophomore Heidi Kunkel (Northfield, Vt.) each scored two goals to lead Roger Williams University past Anna Maria College, 7-0, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at Kingle Field on Wednesday.

 

Fusaro scored two goals in the first half, the second coming off an assist by freshman Alexa Maher (Hopewell, N.J.). The Hawks took the 2-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the AMCATS 22-1 in the period.

 

Roger Williams poured it on in the second half, scoring five goals on 12 shots. Along with two goals by Kunkel, the Hawks got scores from senior Kelly Capek (Engelwood, Col.), freshman Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.), and freshman Devon Leighton (Scarborough, Maine). Sophomore forward Caitlyn Cawthron (Hillsborough, N.H.) also chipped in with two assists as Roger Williams went on to win, 7-0.

 

Senior Goalkeeper Karine Almeida (Brockton, Mass.) grabbed ten saves for the AMCATS in the tough loss.

 

Roger Williams is now 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the TCCC. The loss drops the AMCATS to 3-4-3 on the year and they are now 0-4 in conference play. Roger Williams will face Nichols College Saturday at 1pm, while Anna Maria will travel to take on Wentworth Saturday at noon.
