Peter Plate holds WNEC scoreless in 110 minutes of action

Men's Soccer plays to double OT draw against WNEC

BRISTOL, R.I. – The fight for first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference ended in a scoreless stalemate, as the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team tied Western New England College 0-0 in double overtime Saturday afternoon.

The lack of scoring came by no fault of the offensive effort by both teams, as the two squads combined for 35 shots in the game. Defending the net for both teams were Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) and Dan Ruscigno, who saved six and seven shots, respectively.

The defensive backs for both teams played a large role in altering the shot attempts, with ten blocked shots between the Hawks and the Golden Bears.

Archie Maoh (Monrovia, Liberia) had an opportunity late in the game to give the Hawks a potential game-winner, firing a close shot at Ruscigno. A crucial save by Ruscigno kept the game scoreless, forcing overtime.

A 1-0 victory by Nichols College over New England College keeps Roger Williams and Western New England tied for first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with 20 points apiece.

Roger Williams (7-3-2, 6-1-2 TCCC) steps out of conference play Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. game against Babson College, while Western New England (9-1-3, 6-0-2 TCCC) travels to Salve Regina University Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
