BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team won its seventh straight game with a 1-0 victory over Western New England College Saturday afternoon. The Hawks now move to second place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Despite Western New England holding a 10-3 shot advantage in the first half, the Golden Bears were unable to find the back of the net, with RWU junior goalie Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) making five saves in the period.
The scoreless tie ended soon after the first half when Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) took a pass from junior Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Conn.) and scored the eventual game winner for RWU in the opening minute of the second period.
The Hawks were able to tame the Golden Bear offense in the second half, holding Western New England to only three shots in the final 45 minutes.
With six saves in the game, Garside picked up her tenth shutout of the season. She has not allowed a goal in seven games.
For Western New England, Jessica Covino suffered the loss, making five saves in the game. Nicole Poli had two shots for the Golden Bears in the contest.
Roger Williams (10-2-0, 8-1-0 TCCC) will host Eastern Nazarene College Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., while Western New England (3-10-0, 2-6-0 TCCC) takes on Salve Regina University Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
