Box Score
BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team gains sole possession of second place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 1-0 win over the University of New England Saturday afternoon.
Early scoring and strong defense has been the modus operandi for the Hawks during their nine-game win streak and today's game proved no different. Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) tied for the team lead with her tenth goal of the season in the 20th minute. Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Conn.) put up a corner kick which Fusaro headed in to give the Hawks the lead.
From that point, the defense went to work, holding the Nor'Easters to four shots in each half. Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) prevented New England from a potential game-tying score with under four minutes to go in the first half via a diving stop on a loose ball in the box.
Garside saved three shots in the game for her 12th win of the season, while Leigh Engel (Richmondville, N.Y.) made five saves for the Nor'Easters in the loss.
Roger Williams (12-2-0. 10-1-0 TCCC) hosts Regis College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while the University of New England (11-2-0, 9-1-0 TCCC) heads up to Endicott Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
