Women's Soccer nets ten against Regis

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I.An offensive surge helped push the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team past Regis College Tuesday afternoon, as the Hawks defeated the Pride by a 10-0 margin.

The ten goals for the Hawks were the most in a game since October 18, 2005, when RWU defeated Anna Maria College by the same 10-0 score. Nine different players found the back of the net, including five Hawks who scored their first goal of the year.

Over the course of the first half, the Hawks scored early and scored often. Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) began the rally for RWU with a pair of goals at the 9:03 and 10:30 marks. Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Mass.) added another score for RWU in the 16th minute, with Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) notching her third goal of the year in the 26th minute. By the end of the first half, Roger Williams held a 6-0 lead.

In the third minute of the second half, Kelsey Whalen (Saratoga, N.Y.) picked up where the team left off, chipping in a short cross from Noelle Marston (Kingston, Mass.). Rachel Hodgson (Upton, Mass.) was able to outrun the defense on a clear by Taryn Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.), getting to the ball and knocking in her first score of the year. Less than a minute later, Marston scored another goal for the Hawks. The final goal of the game came off the foot of Kristen Metcalf (Londonderry, N.H.).

Regis was held to only one shot during the course of the game, coming from Meghan Roan (Whitman, Mass.). The Pride keeper, Jackie Sullivan (Naples, Fla.), managed ten saves from the Hawk offense.

Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) added two assists in the game for RWU. Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) saved Roan's shot to collect her tenth shutout and extend the Hawk winning streak to ten games.
