BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team closed out its home schedule of the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over New England College, clinching the second seed for next weekend's TCCC Tournament.
Prior to the game, the Hawks' celebrated its senior day, honoring the three co-captains; Kristen O'Gorman (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Julie Hamor (Woodbury, Conn.), and Kelly Capek (Englewood, Col.). Once the game started, the seniors got to work with Capek scoring the first goal 4:34 into the game, one-timing a pass from Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) for her third goal of the year.
At the 24:22 mark, Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) bent in a corner kick from the left side just around the post for the second Roger Williams goal of the day. In the closing minutes of the first half, Hamor got in on the scoring action, notching her first goal of the season. At the 40th minute, she launched a shot deep outside the left side of the box into the right corner of the goal.
Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) and Jenny Schermerhorn (Sherborn, Mass.) played the first and second halves of the game, respectively, to combine for the shutout. Garside had one save for the Hawks while Schermerhorn made five stops.
The Pilgrims' Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) had 13 saves in the game for New England College.
Roger Williams (14-2-0, 11-2-0 TCCC) takes on Brandeis University Monday at 7:00 p.m. in its final game of the regular season. New England College (7-9-1, 5-6-1 TCCC) is currently tied with Nichols for the final postseason spot and will play the University of New England Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
