Julie Hamor anchors Hawk defense that notches 5th straight shutout

Early goal leads Women's Soccer to win

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I.The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team extended its winning streak to five games in a row with a 1-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer College Sunday afternoon.

Freshman forward Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) put the Hawks on the board in the third minute of the game, knocking in her ninth goal of the season to give RWU an early lead. From that point on, the Hawk offense did not let up, putting up 26 shots on the Chargers in the game.

Colby-Sawyer had trouble throughout the game establishing an offensive rhythm, as the Chargers were held to only two shots in the contest. Their second shot had the best opportunity to knot the game, as Elise Kapp (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) fired a shot from the top of the box that sailed over the goal.

Junior keeper Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) did not have to make a save in the game to record the shutout, as the Hawk defense kept the Colby-Sawyer offense in check. The tandem consisted of sophomore Taryn Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.), sophomore Julie Moody (Plymouth, Mass.), senior Julie Hamor (Woodbury, Conn.), junior Sam Tolken (Bourne, Mass.), and freshman Taryn Roussel (Ivoryton, Conn.).

Senior keeper Christina Quirk (Milford, Conn.) tallied seven saves in the game for Colby-Sawyer, while Kapp had both shots for the Chargers.

Roger Williams (8-2-0, 6-1-0 TCCC) will continue its homestand Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. when the Hawks host Salve Regina University. Colby-Sawyer (3-5-2, 2-3-0 TCCC) takes on Western New England College at home Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
