Dan Saccoccio scores goal in loss

Last-minute goal sinks Men's Soccer

BRISTOL, R.I.Adam Sussman's (Swampscott, Mass.) goal with 2:56 left in the game proved to be the game-winner, as #15th-ranked Wheaton College defeated the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team 2-1 Monday afternoon.

Sussman ended up in the right place at the right time, after RWU goalie Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) saved a shot by Ben Resnicow (Newtown, Mass.) that came off of a throw-in by Jake Wagner (Sudbury, Mass.). Plate was unable to corral the deflection and Sussman took the opportunity to knock in the open shot.

Prior to Sussman's game-clincher, Roger Williams struck first early in the second half off of a goal by Dan Saccoccio (Holtsville, N.Y.) in the 50th minute.  Liam Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.) took a throw-in by Archie Maoh (Monrovia, Liberia) and booted a long pass to Saccoccio, who finished with his sixth goal of the year.

Wheaton tied the game in the 64th minute when Kyle Sye (Acton, Mass.) booted shot at Plate, who could not hold on to the ball. Eric Driscoll (Lexington, Mass.) took advantage of the loose ball and knotted the game at one apiece.

The Hawks had one chance to send the game into overtime when Michael Patriarca (Warren, R.I.) put up a shot from outside the box that had the distance but sailed wide left.

Sophomore goalie Cole Davidson earned his first win of the season, making three saves on the day, while his counterpart, Plate, made seven saves in the game.

Roger Williams (6-3-1) will host Salve Regina University Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., while Wheaton (7-2-1) hosts Babson College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
