BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team notched a 4-0 shutout over Salve Regina University Tuesday afternoon. Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) notched her second hat trick of the season, scoring RWU's last three goals.
Kelsey Whalen (Saratoga, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board first in the 38th minute, chipping in a corner kick from Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) right in front of the net. Less than two minutes later, Pendleton knocked in her first score of the day, booting a long shot from outside the right side of the box into the left corner of the goal to put RWU up 2-0.
The two-goal lead for Roger Williams held up until the 60:34 mark, when Pendleton put in a deflected save by Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, R.I.). Alexa Maher (Hopewell, N.J.) launched a straight-on shot at Vaudrain, who made a valiant stop on the ball, but Pendleton was able to take advantage of the rebound to score the Hawks' third goal of the game. She capped off the hat trick with another goal to the left side of the net in the 62nd minute.
The Hawks kept busy on the offensive end, outshooting the Seahawks 29-6 over the course of the game. Vaudrain had seven stops on the day in the loss.
