Box Score MILTON, Mass. – Curry College snaps the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team's five-game winning streak and moves into a tie for first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 63-53 win Wednesday evening.
The Colonels overcame a 23-14 halftime deficit while shooting just 6-of-25 in the first half en route in the win. Curry shot a blistering 20-of-31 from the field in the second half, exploding for 49 points in the period.
Curry opened the second half on an 11-0 run to take a two-point lead before a Dan Gumb (Patterson, N.Y.) layup knotted the game at 25. Curry's Johnathan Bowers (Kalamazoo, Mich.) knocked down a jumper at the 12:27 mark to take a 30-29 lead.
It would take the Hawks more than eight minutes to close the gap, when a three-pointer by Ben Camobreco (Duxbury, Mass.) helped RWU regain the lead, making it a 51-50 game with 4:01 to play.
That would be the Hawks' final field goal of the game, as RWU missed its last five shots while Curry closed out on a 13-2 run to earn the win
Geoff Baranger (Fairfield, Conn.) finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points with 12 boards. Tucker Bashaw (Williston, Vt.) and Billy Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) each scored 11 points apiece.
Bowers also had a double-double, going for 18 points with 15 rebounds. Tim Jones (Brookline, Mass.) finished with 18 points as well, while Mark Mastrullo (Billerica, Mass.) scored 12.
Roger Williams (14-10, 10-2 TCCC) plays its final game of the regular season Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when the Hawks hit the road to take on Eastern Nazarene College. Curry (14-10, 10-2 TCCC) will host Endicott College Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
