Men's Basketball gets conference win down the road

NEWPORT, R.I. – Four Hawks scored in double figures as the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team defeated The Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Salve Regina University 65-61 Wednesday evening.

Ben Camobreco (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Hawks with 15 points, 13 of which were in the first half. The Hawks led wire-to-wire in the period, entering the break up by a 32-26 margin.

Tucker Bashaw (Williston, Vt.) knocked down a three-pointer with gave RWU an eight-point lead with a three-point basket with 2:28 left. The Seahawks' Justin Woodworth (Ipswich, Mass.) answered with a pair of treys of his own to cut the deficit to two with 55 seconds left, making it a 63-61 game.

The Hawks were able to maintain the lead, as Camobreco sank a runner in the lane with 19 seconds left in the game to give RWU a four-point cushion to ultimately give them the win. 

Bashaw finished with 14 points, while Dan Gumb (Patterson, N.Y.) and Geoff Baranger (Fairfield, Conn.) each scored 12 in the game, as Baranger is just five points shy of the 1,000-point plateau.

Woodworth led all scorers with 22 for Salve Regina. Chris Goodrich (Merrimack, N.H.) finished with ten points and five assists.

Roger Williams (11-9, 7-1) hosts the University of New England Saturday at 3:00 p.m., while Salve Regina (6-14, 4-4 TCCC) takes on Colby-Sawyer at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
