Baseball wins third and fourth straight

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team remained perfect in Arizona with two wins over Springfield College Sunday afternoon, taking the first game by a 11-5 margin and the second by  a 6-5 score.

Mike Malcolm (Brockton, Mass.) pitched 5+ innings to gain the win, striking out three in the process. Jamie Dahill (S. Boston, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tim Atwood (Gorham, Maine) scored twice and doubled in two runs, while Tony Verrocchi (Norwood, Mass.) went 1-for-1 with three walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base.

In the second game, the Hawks rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to gain the victory. Sam Podbelski (East Greenwich, R.I.) earned his first collegiate win, striking out three in five innings of work. Billy Dunn (Fiskdale, Mass.) picked up his second save of the season, pitching two innings of relief. Dahill had another 2-for-4 performance with an RBI, stolen base, and run scored. Kevin Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) got two hits in three at-bats with two stolen bases and a run scored.

Roger Williams (4-0) will head right back to the field tomorrow afternoon, with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader against Bowdoin College.
