NEW LONDON, Conn. – Courtney Wolf's solo home run broke a 3-3 tie in the opener leading Coast Guard to an 8-3 win in the first game before Callie Nealon (Hopkinton, Mass.) had three doubles and five RBI's leading Roger Williams to a 13-3 win in game two, a game called after five innings due to eight-run rule, as the teams split the non-conference doubleheader.
Wolf had two hits and three runs scored in the first game while Amanda Frederick had three hits including a two-run single in the fourth which gave Coast Guard a 6-3 lead.
Erin Cullen had an RBI double in the fifth while Leanna Minton added an RBI single, her second hit of the game, also in the sixth as the Bears extended the lead to 8-3.
Roger Williams scored twice in the first on an RBI double by Andrea Gregory (Toms River, N.J.) and an RBI single by Samantha Teves (Somerset, Mass.), but Coast Guard pitcher Crystal Lee Coonan (5-6) settled down and allowed just five singles and an unearned run over the last six innings to pickup the win. Coonan walked four and struck out three.
In game two, Jen Lyford (Raynham, Mass.) was 4 for 4 with two stolen bases and four runs scored while Renee Bilotti (Bristol, R.I.) added two hits and two runs scored for the Hawks (5-7).
Andrea Gregory (3-2) went the distance, five innings, and allowed five hits and one earned run while walking three and striking out two to get the win.
Roger Williams led 13-0 before Coast Guard (5-11) scored three times in the fifth as Frederick delivered an RBI single and Carin Sweeney added an RBI double.
Katie Murray (0-5) started and took the loss for Coast Guard, allowing four runs in 1 2/3 innings.
