Box Score CUMBERLAND, R.I.- The Roger Williams men's tennis team started its spring campaign with a bang, defeating UMass-Dartmouth in indoor play 9-0. All six singles victories came in straight sets.
At No. 1 doubles, senior Jason Dono (West Boylston, Mass.) teamed with senior Brad Bolte (Augusta, N.J.) to defeat Chris Foster and Ken Sims 8-0. In the No. 2 position, sophomore Kyle Baker (Bolton, Conn.) played with freshman Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) and defeated the Corsairs' Nolan and Trevor Blier, 8-1. Rounding out doubles play were partners Ryan Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Jeffrey Agonia (Lincoln, R.I.) who earned an 8-1 victory over Josh McCoy and Andrew Zappala.
In the singles play that followed, Bolte earned the victory at No. 1, defeating Dave Gogoi 6-3, 6-3. Dono played at the No. 2 position and earned the win over Sims, 6-2, 6-3. In No. 3 play, Baker had the upper hand against Foster, winning 6-3, 6-4. Fayed defeated McCoy at the No. 4 spot, 6-2 6-0, with sophomore Brian Kennedy (Cheshire, Conn.) notching the win at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2 over Zappala. Kleitz had the final win for the Hawks, defeating Alex Samoiloff 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 position.
With the victory, the Hawks record stands at 2-2 in match play. They will compete again in two weeks when they travel to Los Angeles, California for matches against Westwood College and Colorado College on March 17th and 18th.
