Box Score BRISTOL, R.I.- The Roger Williams men's tennis team closed out their regular season on Thursday afternoon with a victory over visiting Nichols College. The Hawks defeated the Bison 8-1, sweeping all six singles flights.
Competition began with doubles, where the Hawks took two of three match-ups. Senior Ryan Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn.) teamed with sophomore Brian Kennedy (Cheshire, Conn.) to earn the point at No. 2, 8-4. Playing together for just the second time this season, senior Brad Bolte (Augusta, N.J.) and junior Jeffrey Agonia (Lincoln, R.I.) also picked up a win, defeating Kevin Pittz and Clayton Johnson 8-5 in the No. 3 spot.
The Hawks went on to clean up in singles, as all flights were decided in straight sets. Bolte improved his record to 9-7 in the No. 1 position with a win over Tyler McLaughlin, 6-0, 6-1. Senior Daniel Roberts (Milford, Conn.) played at No. 2, defeating Jack Baker, 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Kyle Baker (Bolton, Conn.) claimed the point at No. 3, with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Dave Buonaiuto. Also collecting wins were Rayed at No. 4, freshman Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) at No. 5, and Kennedy at No. 6.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 11-7, (7-2 TCCC). The Bison drop to 4-13, (3-6 TCCC). Roger Williams has finished the regular season in a tie with Colby-Sawyer for the second seed in The Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament.
Having earned a regular season victory over Colby-Sawyer, the Hawks claim posession of the No. 2 seed, and will face No. 7 seed Wentworth in the tournament, which begins Saturday. The Hawks will host the opening round beginning at 2:00 p.m.
