WESTON, Mass.- Regis College dropped a softball doubleheader to Roger Williams University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Friday afternoon 13-2, and 16-1. The victory improves Roger Williams to 16-16 overall, 10-6 in the TCCC, while Regis falls to 9-16, 4-12 in the TCCC.
The visiting Hawks completed the game one routing in five innings, breaking open a 3-2 lead in the fourth with a six run, four-hit inning, taking advantage of three Regis errors. The Hawks followed up with a five-run fifth inning. Senior shortstop Callie Nealon (Hopkinton, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Sophomore infielder Samantha Teves (Somerset, Mass.) also added three RBI's, going 3-for-4 in the opening tilt. Sophomore pitcher Alexandra Sera (Newton, Mass.) pitched a two-run, six hit complete game, tainted by Regis freshman catcher Erin Johnson's (W. Springfield, Mass.) solo homer in the second inning.
Game two was much of the same, Roger Williams was able to put up 16 runs off 14 hits, highlighted by an eight-run second inning. Roger Williams leadoff second-baseman Jen Lyford (Raynham, Mass.) lead the way with four RBIs, hitting 2-for-3 and crossing the plate three times.
Roger Williams travels to Nichols college for a noon doubleheader on Sunday, while Regis travels to Curry for a doubleheader on Saturday.
