Western New England squeaks by men's tennis

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Roger Williams men's tennis team was narrowly defeated by TCCC opponent Western New England College today.  The Hawks held their own at singles, taking three of six flights, but could only take one of three doubles flights, falling 5-4 on the match.

Winning at singles were senior Brad Bolte (Augusta, N.J.) in the No. 1 position, sophomore Kyle Baker (Bolton, Conn.) playing at No. 3, and sophomore Brian Kennedy (Cheshire, Conn.) at No. 6.  All victories were earned in straight sets.  Both Daniel Roberts (Milford, Conn.) and Ryan Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn.) took their opponents to tiebreaking sets before dropping their respective third set by identical 6-4 scores.

In doubles competition, the Hawks could only pick up a win at No. 3, as Kennedy teamed with freshman Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) to earn the win. 

With the loss, the Hawks record drops to 8-7, (4-2 TCCC), while the Golden Bears improve to 10-3 overall, and 6-1 in conference play.

The Hawks continue on their conference schedule this Sunday, as they travel to Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. for a 1:00 p.m. match.
