Dahill gets three hits in Hawks' loss

11-run eighth sinks Baseball

BRISTOL, R.I. – An 11-run eighth inning by Wentworth Institute of Technology helped push the Leopards past the Roger Williams University Baseball team Thursday afternoon, as the Hawks fell by a 16-3 score in Game 5 of the TCCC Tournament.

The Leopards brought 15 batters to the plate in the inning, cranking out nine hits. Jake McManus (Hopkinton, N.H.) began things for Wentworth with an RBI single. Three batters later, Nick Cunningham (Pembroke, Mass.) cleared the bases with a grand slam to make it a 10-3 game. Following up Cunningham's effort were Chris Carbone (Goshen, Conn.) and McManus, who each had two-RBI singles in the inning. Pete Oggeri (Sandy Hook, Conn.) capped off the rally with a two-run homer to right.

Prior to Wentworth's offensive tear, the Hawks were trailing 5-3 after seven. RWU began the game with two runs in the first, scored by Jamie Dahill (South Boston, Mass.) and Kevin Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.). Carbone singled in Ben Danker (Branford, Conn.) in the following inning to make it a 2-1 game.

Wentworth took its first lead of the game in the sixth, going up 3-2 on RBI singles by Doug Papuga and Carbone. Dahill led off the bottom half of the inning with a homer to center to knot the game at three. The Leopards regained the advantage with two runs in the seventh before opening the floodgates in the eighth.
