Women's Tennis shut out in season opener

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Babson College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 non-conference win over visiting Roger Williams University in its season opener on Saturday.

The Beavers were led by dominating performances at the top of the lineup by senior tri-captain Courtney Farrell (Burlington, Mass.), junior Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.), and senior tri-captain Heather Walsh (Warwick, R.I.), who combined to win 36 of 38 games in singles play.
 
Babson opened the contest with an impressive doubles sweep, as Walsh and Huang teamed up for an 8-2 win at number one, Farrell and fellow senior tri-captain Kali Hogan (Clinton, Mass.) won 8-2 at two, and the first-year tandem of Brittany Whitenack (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) coasted 8-1 at three. The hosts then continued to play well in singles competition, with Farrell winning 6-0, 6-1 at number one, Huang cruising 6-0, 6-0 at two, and Walsh claiming a 6-0, 6-1 victory at three. Hogan chipped in with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the fourth slot, rookie Becca Stone (Dover, Mass.) notched her first collegiate victory, 6-1, 6-2,  at five, and junior Liz Sheerin (Melrose, Mass.) prevailed 6-1, 6-0, at six.
