Women's Tennis earns first win of the year

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team opened up play in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with an 8-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday afternoon.

 

Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) earned two wins in the #1 flight in singles and doubles. She defeated Elizabeth Zuckerman (South Freeport, Maine) 6-2, 6-4 in singles play, then paired up with Lily Osowski (Byfield, Mass.) to take an 8-1 match over Lydia Caserta (Hudson, Mass.) and Angela Brandt (Northport, Maine).

 

Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) and Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Gate, N.J.) also picked up wins in singles and doubles play for their first collegiate wins. Wolfe won her #4 singles match against Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.) by a 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 score, then took an 8-0 decision in #3 doubles with Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Mass.) over Gustafson and Meredith Gratton (West Chazy, N.Y.).

 

Osepchuk was victorious in her #6 singles match, beating Gratton 6-0, 6-1. In her #2 doubles match with Katie Wilmes (White Bear Lake, Minn.), the duo won 8-5 over Zuckerman and Christina Snyder (Pattersonville, N.Y.).

 

Katelin Richard (West Islip, N.Y.) had the eighth victory for the Hawks, winning Jeannine Stover (Calais, Maine) 6-2, 6-0 in #5 singles.

 

Roger Williams (1-1, 1-0 TCCC) will take on Western New England College Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
