Men's Soccer blanks Leopards

BOSTON, Mass.Three different players scored goals while freshman midfielder Archie Maoh (Monrovia, Liberia) added a pair of assists as the Roger Williams men's soccer team shut out Wentworth, 3-0, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

The majority of the first half was a back-and-forth affair with both teams having chances to score.  It wasn't until the 35:50 mark that the Hawks would break the stalemate when Maoh found freshman midfielder Liam Isleib (Killingsworth, Conn.) who would notch his first collegiate goal.  Less than two minutes later the Hawks tallied again when Moah found sophomore forward Winston Smith (Monrovia, Liberia), who fired a shot from the far right side into the net.

Despite holding a 7-6 shot advantage at the break, the host Leopards were only able to put two of the seven shots on net, but could not get on the board.

With 15:06 left in the contest, Roger Williams closed out the scoring when junior defender Chris Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) found an open sophomore forward Daniel Hunter (Middletown, Conn.) who would tally his first of the season.

Sophomore Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) turned aside all four shots he faced to pick up the win for Roger Williams.  Senior Joe Simon (Pittsfield, Mass.) made seven saves for the Leopards, including five in the second half.  Roger Williams outshot Wentworth, 10-5, in the second half to hold a 16-12 advantage for the contest.

With the win the Hawks improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in TCCC play.  Wentworth falls to 1-4-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.  Both teams are back in action on Wednesday.  Roger Williams continues TCCC play with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Endicott, while the Leopards step out of league play, crossing the Charles River for a 4:30 p.m. tilt at MIT.
