Fusaro's three goals pushes RWU to win

Fusaro nets hat trick in shutout for Women's Soccer

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass.Freshman forward Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored all three of Roger Williams' goals as the Hawks' Women's Soccer team shutout Wentworth, 3-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Fusaro recorded her first of the game at the 9:10 mark as she intercepted a clearing pass off of a goal kick and went in alone to the right side.  The Hawks had a chance to go up 2-0 in the 18th minute; however an offside call negated the goal.  Wentworth would hold a slim, 7-6 shot advantage at the break, but could not find the back of the net.

In the 50th minute of play the Leopards were forced to play a man short due to a red card and less than three minutes later Roger Williams took advantage when senior forward Kristen O'Gorman (Tyngsboro, Mass.) fed Fusaro to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.  She would score her third of the game and fourth of the season with an unassisted tally with 5:12 left in the contest.

Junior Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) made seven saves to post her third consecutive shutout.  Wentworth freshman Katherine Matthews (Northborough, Mass.) made four stops for the Leopards.  Roger Williams held a 17-12 shot advantage, including 11-5 in the second half.

With the win the Hawks improve to 3-1 overall and are 1-0 in TCCC.  Wentworth drops to 1-4 (0-1).  Roger Williams travels to Endicott for a 4:00 p.m. game against the Gulls on Wednesday.  Wentworth steps out of league play on Thursday with a game at 18th-ranked Western Connecticut.
