Gulls give Women's Soccer first conference loss

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College women's soccer team emerged with a conference win Wednesday, downing Roger Williams University, 2-0, in a rematch of last year's TCCC Championship game. The win improves Endicott to 3-2-1 (2-0-0 TCCC) while Roger Williams suffers its first conference loss of the year (3-2 overall, 1-1 TCCC).

The Gulls set the tempo in the first half, outshooting the Hawks, 17-2. Endicott's persistence finally paid off with just 48 ticks left in the opening frame as Briana Russo (Danvers, Mass.) took a short feed from Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.) and buried a quick turnaround shot into the lower right-side of the net. The Gulls would carry the 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Endicott doubled its advantage in the 63rd minute as Caitlin Flynn stayed in the giving spirit, crossing a corner to the middle of the box where Allyson Bellemore (Manchester, N.H.) headed the pass past Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) for the 2-0 lead.

The Hawks had a pair of opportunities late as Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) broke in on the right side and blasted a point-blank shot on goal, only to be turned away by EC goalkeeper Amy Meuse (Saugus, Mass.). Pendleton stuck with the play and fired the rebound back towards the net, connecting with the outside of the post to keep the score 2-0.

Endicott tightened up the defense in the closing minutes to preserve the shutout win. The Gulls held a decisive 28-10 advantage in shots on Wednesday, and also had five more corner opportunities than the visitors (7-2). RWU's Jen Garside turned in seven saves in the losing effort while her counterpart, Meuse, made three saves for the Blue and Green.

Endicott looks to extend its winning streak to three-straight games as it meets Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon in New London, N.H. Roger Williams looks to rebound on the same day with a 6:30 p.m. match-up with Curry College in Milton, Mass.
