PAXTON, Mass. - Sophomore forward DJ Hunter (Middletown, Conn.) scored two goals to lead Roger Williams University past Anna Maria College, 5-1, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Klingle Field.
The Hawks wasted no time getting things going as freshman Liam Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.) scored in just the 2nd minute of play on a beautiful feed from senior Joey Summa (Stamford, Conn.). Hunter followed by scoring his first of two goals on a header off a well placed pass from freshman Archie Maoh (Monrovia, Liberia). Hunter would score again less than five minutes later, taking a pass from Isleib and finding the back of the net to put the Hawks up 3-0.
The AMCATS battled back as sophomore Joshua Bernardo (Peabody, Mass.) headed a remarkable throw-in from sophomore Michael Powell (Windham, Mass.) past Hawks' goalkeeper Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) to cut the lead to 3-1 going into half time.
As they had done in the first half, the Hawks struck first in the second period as Maoh scored on a header off a pass from sophomore Jared Falconer (Ludlow, Mass.). Justin Levasseur (Colchester, Conn.) would take on another goal for the Hawks off a pass from sophomore Michael Friedman (Scarsdale, N.Y.) as Roger Williams went on to win the game 5-1.
The win improves the Hawks' overall record to 5-3-1. They are now 4-1-1 in TCCC play. Anna Maria falls to 2-7 on the season and is now 1-3 in the TCCC. The AMCATS will look to bounce back when they travel to take on Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday at 3pm.
