Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I.The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team earned its first win of the 2008 season Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 victory of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Leading the way for the Hawks was freshman forward Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) who notched a hat trick for RWU. Pendleton kept the Corsair defense working as she put up nine shots in the game.

Her first goal came in 23rd minute when she fired a shot from close range at Corsair sophomore goalie Tanya Braga (Hudson, Mass.), who made an impressive save. The deflection from the save allowed Pendleton to take advantage of the loose ball and score to give RWU a 1-0 lead.

Pendleton's second goal came in similar fashion, when she took a Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) pass and launched a shot on target. Braga was able to make the stop, but could not corral the ball, giving Pendleton the opportunity for the put-back with under a minute remaining in the first half.

Pendleton earned her third score of the game in the 75th minute on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box.

Junior keeper Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) picked up her tenth career shutout, making seven saves on the day. Fusaro and junior midfielder Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Conn.) each tallied an assist for the Hawks.

Braga stopped seven shots for the Corsairs in the game. Sophomore midfielder Kristen Soares (Somerset, Mass.) and senior forward Sarah Killingbeck (Norton, Mass.) each took three shots for UMass-Dartmouth.

Roger Williams (1-1-0) will take the weekend off and host Rhode Island College Monday at 4:00 p.m., while UMass-Dartmouth (0-1-0) will be on the road Saturday at Fitchburg State College for a 2:00 p.m. game.
