BRISTOL, R.I. – In a TCCC matchup Western New England College defeated Roger Williams in Women's Tennis on Saturday by a score of 5-4.  The Hawks took all three of the doubles matches but WNEC won five of the six singles matches on their way to the win.

The # 1 singles match was won by WNEC's Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, Mass.) 6-1, 6-1 over Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.).  Freshman Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) was the lone singles winner for the Hawks, beating Kristen Ayers (Acton, Mass.) by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.  Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, Mass.) from WNEC came back from being down a set to defeat Caitlin Opsepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.) by scores of 4-6, 7-5 and 6-4.  #Katelin Richard# (West Islip, NY.) lost a close match to Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, Conn.) in three sets, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 6-4.  The #5 singles saw Christina Barbarisi (Agawam, Mass.) from WNEC win over Paige Cunningham (Wethersfield, Conn.) in two sets, 6-0, 6-3.  The #6 singles match was another three set match won by Colleen Swan (Milford, Conn.) over Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn.) by scores of 3-6, 6-1 and 6-3.

The Doubles competition was a different story as RWU won all three of the matches.  Ribchinsky and Opsepchuk teamed up in the #1 Doubles match and were victorious over DeSimone and Ayers 9-7.  The #2 Doubles was won by Klein and Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) 8-4 over the team of Murnane and Jessica Haffner (Suffield, Conn.) from WNEC.  The third Doubles match was another win for the Hawks as Richard and Kristin Dono (West Boylston) won over Mustafa and Barbarisi in an 8-4 final.

With the loss the Hawks drop to 5-4 and 5-2 in the TCCC.  The Golden Bears have an identical conference record as the Hawks with the win, and improve to 7-2 overall. 

The Hawks next match will be at Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday in another conference matchup, with a scheduled start time of 3:30 pm.  Western New England also plays on Wednesday at 3:30 pm as they host Wentworth Institute of Technology.
