PAXTON, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team defeated Anna Maria College 9-0 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Wachusett High School. With the victory, the Hawks now improve to 2-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the TCCC, while the AMCATS fall to 0-2 both on the year and in the Conference.
The Hawks won all six singles matches, including an exciting duel between Roger Williams' Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) and Anna Maria's Marissa Boss (Holden, Mass.). Ribchinsky battled to take the match in two hard fought sets 7-5, 7-6. Sophomore Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Melissa Perry (Bristol, R.I.) each won their matches while dropping just a single game while freshman Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.), sophomore Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.), and senior Katelin Richard (West Islip, N.Y.) each won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
Roger Williams went on to take all three doubles matches without dropping a single game. The duos of Ribchinsky/Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.), Richard/Kristin Dono (West Boyleston, Mass.), and Paige Cunningham (Wethersfield, Conn.)/Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn.) all earned 8-0 victories.
The Hawks will travel to Newport on Saturday to take part in the Salve Regina Grass Court Doubles Tournament starting at 10:00 am. The AMCATS will host Curry College on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
