BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team opened up The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a 5-1 win Tuesday afternoon over Western New England College.

Roger Williams entered the tournament at the #2 seed, while Western New England came in as the #7 seed. The Hawks had previously defeated the Golden Bears in their only other matchup, an 8-1 decision back on September 29.

The Hawks took two of the three doubles matches, with Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) and Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) defeating Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Caitlin Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) 8-2 at #1, and Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) and Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) winning by the same score at #2 over Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, Mass.)

Western New England grabbed the #3 doubles match by an 8-4 score, with Ashley Czeltka (Southampton, N.Y.) and Jessica Haffner (Suffield, Conn.) besting Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Mass.) and Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.)

At singles play, Curran took her #1 match 6-1, 6-1 over DeSimone, while Wolfe defeated Mustafa 6-1, 6-0. Dono earned the winning point at #6, with her 6-1, 6-3 win over Czeltka to advance RWU to the semis.

Roger Williams (11-4) will take part in the New England Division III Championships this weekend before hosting #3 seed Salve Regina University next Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Salve Regina advanced via a 5-0 win over #6 Curry College. Western New England College concludes its season with a record of 6-8.
