BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson Women's Tennis teams earned their first win of the 2010 season with an 8-1 victory over visiting Roger Williams University. Five different Babson players came away with both singles and doubles victories in the win.

First-year Sarah Whitaker (Dellwood, Minn.) earned two wins in her collegiate debut at the number one singles spot, 7-5 and 6-4, and then again at the number one doubles spot with teammate Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.), 8-6.  One of the team's tri-captains Stone also won her singles match at the number two spot, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

Inna Loseva (Riga, Latvia) also made big contributions in her first collegiate match winning at the number three singles spot, 6-0, 6-1. She teamed up with senior tri-captain Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash.) at the number two doubles spot and claimed another victory, 8-1. At the number four singles position, Mercer defeated her opponent 6-1 and 6-4 for her second win of the day.

Babson's last singles win came at the number five spot with sophomore Mikaela Stamas (Northborough, Mass.) winning 6-1, 6-4. Stamas then combined with sophomore Victoria Lorida (Miami, Fla.) to take the third doubles win at the number three spot, 8-2.

Roger Williams lone win came at the number six singles position where junior Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Mass.) took the 6-2, 7-5 victory.

The Beavers will next host Simmons on Tuesday, September 7th for a 4pm match at Farwell Courts. Roger Williams hosts Gordon College on Saturday, September 4th at 1:00 p.m.
