BRISTOL, R.I. – The RWU Women's Tennis Team earned a 6-3 home win Tuesday afternoon over The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent and in-state rival Salve Regina University. The result evens both teams' records at 5-1 in the TCCC.

The visiting Seahawks had the early lead in the match, taking two of the three doubles matches, including an 8-4 win by Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) and Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, Mass.) and an 8-6 win by and Nichol Stevens (Chester, Conn.) and Valerie Leso (West Warwick, R.I.). The Hawks' duo of Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.) and Alexandra Reilly (North Easton, Mass.) earned RWU a point with their 8-6 doubles victory.

RWU mounted a comeback in singles action, dropping just the first singles match to Phillips, 6-3, 7-5. The remaining singles matches were won by RWU with only Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) needing a tiebreaker in her third singles match, winning in the end 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-7).

RWU sophomore Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) won 6-2, 7-5 at number two singles, junior Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) won 6-1, 6-1, Magner took the fifth singles match 6-4, 6-2 and junior Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Mass.) rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win.

This marks the second-straight season RWU downed the Seahawks by the score of 6-3. The last Seahawks victory in the match-up came Sept. 24, 2008, by the score of 5-4.

RWU moves on to face Bridgewater State College Thursday in non-conference action. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.  Salve Regina next hosts Colby-Sawyer College, Saturday, at 1 p.m.
