BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team kept its quest for a #2 seed in The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament alive with an 8-1 win over Western New England College Wednesday afternoon.

Coming into the day, the Hawks held on to a three-way tie with Salve Regina University and Endicott College for second place, with all three teams standing with a 6-1 conference record. The Hawks currently hold the tiebreaker over Salve Regina due to their 6-3 win over the Seahawks back on September 21.

Roger Williams swept all three doubles matches, with Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) and Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) winning 8-2 over Nikki DeSimone (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Caitlyn Hughes (Springfield, Mass.). Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) and Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) defeated Chrissy Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, Mass.) 8-3 at #2, while Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.) and Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Mass.) put RWU up 3-0 with the 8-6 win over Jessica Haffner (Suffield, Conn.) and Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, N.Y.) at #3.

At singles, Curran won her fourth consecutive #1 match with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over DeSimone, while Dono's 6-2, 6-3 win over Czelatka gives her back-to-back singles wins at #6. Magner moved up to .500 overall on the year in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win oat #5 of Haffner, with Klein grabbing her sixth conference singles with at 6-1, 6-3 decision against Barbarisi. Wolfe won her #4 match 6-3, 7-5 over Mustafa.

Hughes earned the sole point for the Golden Bears on the day, defeating Ribchinsky 7-6, 6-3 at the third singles flight.

Roger Williams (7-4, 7-1 TCCC) battles Endicott Saturday at 12:00 p.m. for possession of second place while Western New England (3-6, 3-5 TCCC)  takes on St. Joseph's College Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
