Ewing, N.J. – The Wrestling team competed at the College of New Jersey Saturday, facing three Metro Conference Teams on the day, falling to #14 TCNJ 26-12, defeating Hunter College 29-16 and finishing with a tight 20-16 loss to NYU.
In the first match of the day the hosts earned victories in each of the first six bouts before RWU sophomore Shane Parcel (Pine Brook, N.J.) extended his personal win streak to five as he earned a 6-4 overtime victory at the 174 weight class. Sophomore Robert Markowski (Wayne, N.J.), junior Dillon Lawler (Verona, N.J.) and senior Nick Cambi (Cohasset, Mass.) each went on to register a win by decision to close out the match.
The Hawks faced Hunter College in the second match of the day and again fell behind early, facing a 13-0 deficit with just six bouts remaining. RWU bounced back to dominate the rest of the match with freshman Collin Crowell (Hampstead, N.H.) gathering a 16-0 tech. fall at 157. At 174 Parcel recorded the fifth pin in his last six matches, followed by sophomore Philip Ernst's (Succasunna, N.J.) pin in just 3:15 at 184, followed by Markowski's pin at 4:40 at 197. Cambi added six points for the Hawks with his win by forfeit at 285.
In the final match of the day RWU's lightweight woes continued with the team facing an 11-0 deficit after the first three bouts. A tight 8-6 win at 149 for junior Kevin Edward (Bayport, N.Y.) and a 7-1 win for Crowell at 157 brought the Hawks back to within five. An RWU loss at 165, followed by Parcel's 11-3 major decision win at 174 moved the difference to just four with three bouts remaining. And although Cambi needed just 47 seconds to pin his opponent in the heavyweight battle, the match was out of reach after NYU posted a 7-5 decision and a 6-3 decision at 184 and 197, respectively.
Listed below are the final results from the Hawk's first two matches. The Hawks return to action Thursday when they host Bridgewater State University in the RWU Recreation Center Gymnasium. The Pilgrim League match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
