BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team will move on to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals after defeating Western New England University 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon in the CCC Quarterfinals.
The third-seeded Hawks improve to 9-3 on the year and travel up to Massachusetts next Wednesday to take on #2 seed Endicott. Western New England closes out the fall portion of the season with a 5-6 record.
Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) and Tracy Klein (New City, R.I.) began things with an 8-0 win for the Hawks at #1 doubles over Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Caitlin Hughes (Springfield, Mass.). Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.) and Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) followed that up with an 8-3 win at #2 doubles against Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Jessica Haffner (Suffield, Conn.). Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.) and Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 decision over Kelsey Grode (Fairview, Pa.) and Lori Pagliano (Milford, Conn.).
At singles play, Wolfe came away with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Haffner at #3, with Osepchuk earning the clinching point after. Osepchuk defeat Alysha Lesieur (Hudson, N.H.) in straight set (6-0, 6-0) to advance the Hawks to the semifinals.
