BRISTOL, R.I. – Babson College rolled off a 9-0 win over the Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team Thursday afternoon to begin the 2011-12 season.

Sarah Whitaker and Alex Freeman won at #1 doubles 8-2 over Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) and Samantha Curran (Barrington, R.I.), while Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) and Minte Tamoshunas (Pittsford, N.Y.) nabbed an 8-3 decision at #2 over Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.) and Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.). Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash.) and Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) closed out the doubles sweep at #3 with an 8-4 win over Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) and Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.)

At singles play, Curran nearly gave the Hawks their lone win on the day at #2, falling 1-6 in the first set to Whitaker before coming back to take the second 6-4. Whitaker would take the third 10-6 to hold off Curran. At #1, Freeman would net a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Klein while Stone's 6-0, 6-3 win over Wolfe at #4 kept things rolling for the Beavers. Mikaela Stamas (Northborough, Mass.) won without dropping a game against Osepchuk at #5, followed by Mercer closing out the match for Babson, winning 6-0, 6-1 against Hilton.
