Endicott gives Women’s Tennis first CCC loss of the season

BEVERLY, Mass. - With a 6-3 win over the visiting Roger Williams Women's Tennis team, Endicott team leaped over the Hawks atop the CCC standings for the first time this season. 

The Gulls captured two out of three doubles matches and four out of six singles matches en route to the home conference victory and improved their season record to 6-1 (3-0 CCC).  Roger Williams, winners of their last three matches heading into Wednesday, dropped to 4-2 (3-1 CCC). 

Endicott sophomore Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) won 8-1 over the Hawks duo of freshman Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) in #3 doubles to put the Blue and Green ahead 1-0.  Gulls junior Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) and senior captain Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) teamed up at the #2 doubles position to win 8-1 over junior Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Adriana Maconochie (Easton, Conn.).

Up 2-0, the top doubles match ended with the Hawks taking the tiebreaker 7-3 to cut Endicott's lead down to 2-1 heading into singles play.  Roger Williams junior Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.), last week's CCC Player of the Week, and senior Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) earned the 9-8 (7-3) win over Endicott's sophomore duo of Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine).

In singles play, the Gulls were able to take the top four flights with Cloutier, Martel, Egbert, and Heacox all winning in straight sets.  Cloutier defeated Curran 6-2, 6-2, Martel defeated Klein 6-3, 6-1, Egbert battled Schmidt 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, and Heacox handed Dutton a 6-3, 6-0 defeat. 

Roger Williams' Maconochie and Brown took the final two singles flights in straight sets with Maconochie winning 6-1, 6-2 over Pinciaro and Gulls junior Annie Gluskin (Duxbury, Mass.) suffering a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Brown. 

Endicott looks to keep their CCC record unbeaten with a road match on Saturday, September 22nd at Curry while Roger Williams hosts Bridgewater State in non-conference action tomorrow.
