Wrestling Finishes 6th at VA Duals

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling Team finished sixth out of eight teams at the Virginia Duals American College Tournament.

The Hawks opened the tournament bracket with a 17- 26 loss to Liberty University which sent them to the consolation side of the bracket.  In the first match of the consolation bracket the Hawks squared off with Anderson University who lost their first match to the eventual tournament Champion Steven's Institute.  The Hawks downed Anderson to advance the fifth place match which pitted them against Nassau Community College.  The Hawks dropped a close battle 16-22 to take sixth place at the tournament.

Coach Jon Egan commented, "We didn't wrestle very well, and against this level of competition you can't just show up and expect to win.  You have to be there 100% mentally, physically and emotionally to maximize your potential and capitalize on an opportunity like this.  Unfortunately we didn't bring it all together this weekend.  On a positive note, James Carrol had an excellent weekend going undefeated in his matches and Phil Ernst picked up his 100th match win."

Individual Match Results

The Hawks will be back in action January 19th in Middleton, Conn. to take on the Cardinals of Wesleyan University at noon.
