UNE sets down Field Hockey

Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team could not pick up its first Commonwealth Coast Conference win, as the Hawks were downed 4-0 to the University of New England Saturday afternoon.

Senior Casey Clark (Franconia, N.H.) had two goals and one assist to lead the University of New England. With the win the Nor'easters remain perfect in CCC play with an unblemished 7-0 mark while upping their record to 8-5 overall. The Hawks slip to 2-9 and are winless in seven conference contests.

Despite controlling play from the outset, the Nor'easters were unable to find the cage until late in the first half. Senior Hayley LaPointe (Topsham, Maine) found Clark with a centering pass from the left corner and Clark pushed the cross home from close range to get UNE on the scoreboard at the 31:49 mark. The assist by LaPointe extended her program career-leading mark to 27.

Clark would push UNE's lead to 2-0 at 53:25 of the second, stuffing home a rebound for her sixth goal of the year.

Big Blue extended the cushion less than three minutes later when junior Erin Bibber (Charlton, Mass.) re-directed a shot by sophomore Alyssa Kowal (Barre, Mass.) for her team-best eighth marker of the season.

UNE wrapped up the scoring in the 61st minute as Clark slid a pass to LaPointe, who stuffed home the feed after setting up in front of the cage.

First-year goalkeeper Holly Smith (Peabody, Mass.) went the distance to register the win for the Nor'easters, who led in shots (30-0) and penalty corners (21-0).

First-year Melora Lavoie (Poland, Maine) had 12 stops for the Hawks and classmate Nicole Angeley (Norwalk, Conn.) was credited with a defensive save.

Big Blue returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 16) when nationally-ranked MIT comes to Biddeford for a 6 p.m. match.

Roger Williams hosts Daniel Webster College on Monday (Oct. 14) at 4 p.m.
