Field Hockey tripped up by Salve Regina

Box Score MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Salve Regina scored three times in the first 15 minutes and defeated the visiting Roger Williams University Field Hockey team, 4-2, in the first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) meeting between the two programs.

With its second straight win, Salve Regina evens its record at 5-5 (4-1 CCC) while Roger Williams drops to 2-7 (0-5 CCC).

Junior Alexandria Rizzo (Hopedale, Mass.) scored her fourth goal of the season in the game's seventh minute, with an assist from sophomore Lindsey Mazzola (Upton, Mass.).

Roger Williams responded shortly with its first shot less than two minutes later. Junior midfielder Katchen Lachmayr (Reading, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season, with an assist from senior Hailey Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.), to tie the score at 1-1.

Sophomore forward Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) scored her fifth goal of the season in the 12th minute to put Salve Regina back on top. Senior Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.), the team's leading scorer, directed a pass to her second-year forward.

The Hawks started their next possession at midfield and marched directly towards a game-tying score. Wolfe notched her second tally of the season 31 seconds after Tepper's goal.

Bucci scored the eventual game-winner in the 15th minute following a penalty corner started by fellow classmate Heather Kapatoes (Hopedale, Mass.).

The teams then had scoreless action for over 40 minutes.

Freshman midfielder Courtney McMorrow (Montclair, N.J.) started a penalty corner for the Seahawks and, after the ball traveled around the circle, Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) sent a pass across the front of the goal that McMorrow shot in for an insurance score. It was the third goal of the season for McMorrow who scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Endicott College on Wednesday night.

Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) evened her record at 5-5 on the season while registering one save; Melora Lavoie (Poland, Maine) stayed busy with 10 saves on the afternoon.

Salve Regina completes its four-game homestand when it hosts Western New England University on Tuesday (7 p.m.) at Gaudet; the Seahawks defeated the Golden Bears in Springfield, Mass., on September 18 (8-4). Roger Williams looks for its first CCC victory on Wednesday when the Hawks host Nichols College (4 p.m.).
