BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis defeated Gordon College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference regular season finale, winning 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
RWU began with a pair of wins at doubles, with Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) opening with an 8-2 win at #2 over Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) and Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.). Emma Limburg (New London, N.H.) and Adriana Maconochie (Easton, Conn.) followed with an 8-4 win at #3 against Jessie Dupre (North Billerica, Mass.) and Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.). The Fighting Scots picked up their first point of the match with an 8-6 win at #1 by Caroline Hall (Corona, Calif.) and Cindi Flynn (Sunset Beach, Calif.) against Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) and Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.).
At singles, Limburg and Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) both won by 6-0, 6-1 scores, with Kaiserman beating Dupre at #5 and Limburg winning at #6 over Caron. Schmidt swept Drescher 6-0. 6-0 at #3, earning her tenth straight singles win of the season. Brown picked up the final Hawk point at #4, defeating Flynn 6-3, 6-1 to remain undefeated in conference singles play.
Gordon's two singles points came at the top two flights, with Hall defeating Curran 6-0, 6-2 at #1 and Yeaw beating Dutton 6-4, 6-0 at #2.
Both teams will await the release of the pairings for next week's Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.
