BRISTOL, R.I. – The #3 seed Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team advances to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals after a 5-0 victory over the #4 seed Salve Regina University Tuesday evening.
All-CCC Second Team duo Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) and Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.) began the day with an 8-1 win over Gina Ciliberti (West Islip, N.Y.) and Hayley Maxwell (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) at #2. All-CCC Honorable Mention selections Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) followed with an 8-3 win at #2 over Kasey Walther (Natick, Mass.) and Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.). Emma Limburg (New London, N.H.) and Adriana Maconochie (Easton, Conn.) pulled out a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Elizabeth Liguori (Westerly, R.I.) and Elizabeth DiFilippo (West Chester, Pa.) at #3.
At singles, Curran did not drop a game as she swept Walther 6-0, 6-0 at #1. Schmidt followed suit shortly after, earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Gilberti at #2 to clinch the win for RWU.
With the win, Roger Williams will head up to Endicott College on Thursday afternoon to face the second-seeded Gulls in the CCC Semifinals. Endicott edged the Hawks 5-4 in their lone regular season matchup. Salve Regina bows out of the tournament with a 3-8 overall record, but will compete at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament next week.
