BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis had its season opener spoiled by Babson College, as the Beavers took a 9-0 win over the Hawks Friday afternoon.
Babson got a pair of 8-2 wins at #1 and #2 doubles, with Alex Freeman and Dina Weick winning over Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) and Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.) at #1 and Sarah Whitatker and Alexis Ferraro taking down Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.). Tori Paolino and Courtney Fischer notched an 8-3 win over Alexandra Reilly (North Easton, Mass.) and Adriana Maconochie (Easton, Mass.) at #3.
At singles play, Freeman downed Curran at #1 while Weick defeated Dutton at #2 by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores. Brown and Reilly each fell 6-0, 6-1 at #4 and #5, to Ferraro and Paolino, respectively. Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) made her Hawk debut at #6, dropping a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Fischer. Whitaket pulled off a 7-5, 6-3 win over Schmidt at #3.
Roger Williams (0-1) opens up conference play tomorrow against Salve Regina, while Babson is off until September 7 with a match at NEWMAC match Springfield.
