Field Hockey taken down by Endicott

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team continues to search for its first CCC victory, as Endicott College spoiled the Hawks' conference home opener with a 7-0 win Tuesday evening.

In the early part of the first period, Endicott kept the Hawk defense busy, maintaining possession in RWU's end of the turf and deflecting a majority of the Hawks' passes upfield. In the opening 20 minutes of the contest, the Gulls attempted six corners, leading up to their ten total in the first half.

The Hawks had a chance to score first in the 16th minute, with Meghan Curran (West Milford, N.J.) just missing on a one-time attempt off a pass. Curran would finish with a pair of shots on the night.

At the 22:26 mark, Endicott managed to get on the board with a goal by Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.). Meghan Leary (Hampton Falls, N.H.) hooked a pass to the right side to Hurst, who was able to sneak in the shot to the right corner.

Four minutes later, Kathryn Walker (Middlebury, Conn.) gave Endicott a 2-0 advantage, taking a loose ball in the arc for the score. Elizabeth LeClair (Wilton, Maine) had her shot turned away by Melora Lavoie (Poland, Maine), followed by a blocked putback attempt by Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine). The third time was a charm for Endicott, with Walker scoring on the ball.

In the 30th minute, Elizabeth Farr (Rindge, N.H.) tipped in a pass from Leary to increase Endicott's lead. The Gulls' three-goal advantage would hold into the half.

Walker added her second goal of the game three minutes into the second half, putting in a short shot from the right side. Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) tapped in a goal of her own in the 46th minute to make it a 5-0 game for Endicott. LeClair rounded out the scoring with goals in the 62nd and 68th minutes to put her season scoring at three.

Lizetta Solarik (Carmel, N.Y.) picked up the win, making a pair of saves on the evening. Lavoie made a career-high ten saves in the loss.

Roger Williams (2-4, 0-3 CCC) heads to Framingham State, while Endicott (5-3, 2-0 CCC) hosts MIT, both games on Thursday.
