BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team was edged by Endicott College Saturday afternoon in CCC play by a 5-4 score.
The Gulls opened the day by taking two of the three doubles matches. Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) earned an 8-1 win over Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and Alexandra Reilly (North Easton, Mass.) at #2. Chrsisy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) paired up to defeat Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) and Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.) 8-4 at #1. The Hawks got on the board with an 8-4 victory at #3 by Adriana Maconochie (Easton, Conn.) and Emma Limburg (New London, N.H.) over Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) and Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.)
At singles, the Gulls took the top two flights in straight sets, with Martel defeating Curran 7-5, 6-3 at #1 and Heacox winning 7-5, 6-4 against Dutton at #2. The Hawks' three wins came in tight three-set matches. Schmidt notched a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win at #3 over Egbert, while Limberg defeated Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) by an identical score at #6. Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) grabbed a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 victory over Rhodes at #5. However Newman earned the clinching point at #4 with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Reilly.
Roger Williams (1-3, 1-1 CCC) travels to Emerson on Tuesday, while Endicott (2-1, 1-0 CCC) hosts Curry on Tuesday as well.
