Women’s Tennis advances to CCC Semifinals

BRISTOL, R.I. – The third-seeded Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team pushed past the #6 seed Western New England University 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinal match of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.

With the win, Roger Williams (11-3, 6-2 CCC) advances to the CCC Semifinals, where the Hawks will travel to take on the #2 seed Nichols College Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Western New England ends its regular season at 7-7 overall.

Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) opened the match with an 8-0 win at #3 doubles over Jessica Breitweg (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Alice Mathews (Scarborough, Maine), while Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) and Caitlin Pierpoint (Glastonbury, Conn.) followed shortly thereafter with an 8-3 victory at #2 against Kelly Byrnes (Berlin, Conn.) and Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.).

Western New England's Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) and Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) played a hard-fought battle against Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) and Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) at #1, but the Hawks were able to prevail via an 8-5 score.

At singles play, Brown quickly put the Hawks on top 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 against Byrnes. Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) punched the Hawks' ticket to the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Michele Magliulo (Manorville, N.Y.). With the win, Stankiewicz remains undefeated at singles with a 9-0 record.
