Wrestling takes Southern Maine and Rhode Island College on Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University wrestling team opened the tri-match with a 31-6 victory over Southern Maine. In the second match up Rhode Island College defeated Southern Maine 32 -12 to send the Huskies home winless on the day. In the final match the RWU dispatched of Rhode Island College 33-4 to send the Anchormen home with a split. The Hawks went 2-0 on the day and improve to 16-1 overall.

The first contested match of the day pitted two national ranked 184 pounders, #4 ranked David Welch (Salem, N.H.) against #5 ranked Johnathan Deupree. Welch's one point victory set the tone for the next three matches that were also decided by a point in favor of the Hawks to give them 18-0 lead in the team score..

The Hawks kicked in to gear against the Anchorman jumping out to a 22-0 lead and putting the contest out of reach with four weight classes to go. Ricondo Cole of RIC was the only Anchorman to win his match.
