BABSON PARK, Mass. — Babson College earned a 9-0 win over the Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team on Friday afternoon at Farwell Courts in the season opener for both teams.

Senior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) and first-year Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) won 8-1 at number one doubles over Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.), senior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) and junior Tori Paolino (Orleans, Mass.) collected an 8-3 victory at number two against Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) and Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.), and first-years Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jenny Quenard (St.- Legier, Switzerland) posted an 8-1 win over Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) at number three.

The Beavers continued in singles play Akgul cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number two, while Freeman and Ferraro both won by identical 6-2, 6-0 scores at number one and five, respectively. Quenard picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number three, Paolino won 6-3, 6-1 at number four and first-year Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph in her collegiate debut at number six.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to Worcester, Mass., where it will take on Nichols College at 5 p.m. on the campus of Clark University, while Roger Williams hosts Suffolk University in its home opener at 1 p.m.
