Women’s Tennis takes home opener over Suffolk

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Suffolk University Saturday afternoon in the team's 2014-15 home opener.

Junior Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) picked up two wins on the day, defeating Adrianna Garrett 6-1, 6-0 at #1 and paired up with Alexandra Brown at #1 doubles for the 8-2 win over Adrianna Garrett and Rebecca Eshoo.

Freshman Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) earned her first collegiate win, taking her #2 singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Eshoo. She also got a doubles win with classmate Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.), as the duo beat Anna Gleason and Lyndsay Reese 8-2 at #3.

Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) won her #3 singles match 6-3, 6-0 over Jacqueline Nakamura, while Brown beat Bella Rathlev 6-1, 6- 0 in the #4 flight. Riley picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Abby Trigilio at #5 singles, and sophomore Caroline McCarthy (Lakefield, Mass.) won 6-0, 6-0 at #6 over Alyssa Graham.

Kaiserman and McCarthy had the remaining win for the Hawks at #2 doubles, defeating Nakamura and Rathlev.

Roger Williams (1-1) will be back in action Wednesday at Simmons College, while Suffolk (0-1) goes to Rhode Island College next Saturday.
