Women’s Tennis rolls to 9-0 win over Emerson

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis earned its second 9-0 win in three days, defeating Emerson College Thursday evening.

Emerson was only able to dress four players for the match; as a result, the Hawks came out the gate with three points already secured.

At doubles, the Hawks swept with a pair of 8-0 victories. Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) and Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) defeated Nora Gonzalez (Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico) and Marilia Rosario (Sao Paulo, Brazil), while Lauren Fletcher and Julia Ackerman won over Therese Nelson (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Ana Alfaro (Mexico).

In singles, Brown and Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) each earned 6-0, 6-0 victories. Brown picked up her win against Alfaro at #4, while Hughes defeated Rosario at #2. Schmidt came home with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Gonzalez at #1, with Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) wrapping up the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Nelson at #3.

Roger Williams (4-2) will host Salve Regina next Wednesday, while Emerson (0-2) heads to Mount Holyoke on Saturday.
