Field Hockey win streak halted at three

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team had its three-game winning streak snapped by Framingham State University Thursday evening. The Rams came away with the 2-0 road win.

The game was a was played under a cool, cloudy September sky that eventually gave way to light showers in the second half.

In the first period, Stephanie Yaeger (Gansevoort, N.Y.) had a great opportunity to give the Hawks an early lead, getting fouled in the penalty area and having an opportunity for a penalty shot in the fifth minute. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Yaeger's shot was a bit too high, bouncing off the crossbar of the goal.

Both teams played fairly evenly throughout the first half, with Framingham State holding a scant 5-4 edge on shots and a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners. Neither team was able to break through with a goal in the first 35 minutes.

Framingham State was able to change that in the second half, as Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) set up Samantha Pajer (Leicester, Mass.) on a penalty corner. Pajer made the extra pass to Emma Littlefield (Rockport, Mass.), who fired a shot into the left corner to give the Rams the 1-0 lead.

Urbaniak later gave Framingham State an insurance goal in the 64th minute, putting in a shot from the top of the arc off of a penalty corner by Sharon Sears (East Bridgewater, Mass.)

Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) needed four saves for the Rams in the shutout win. Melora Lavoie (Poland, Maine) had seven stops for RWU in the loss.

On Saturday, Roger Williams (6-4) will head to the University of New England, while Framingham State (3-4) travels to Eastern Connecticut State.
